Location Leuna

With the Fraunhofer CBP an important step is being taken so that Leuna can develop into an integrated biochemical and petrochemical location and thus play a pioneering role in the industrial use of renewable raw materials.

Sustainability

The Leuna chemical site is developing into Germany's center for sustainable chemistry. Renewable raw materials, circular economy and the industrial use of green hydrogen are the current megatrends in chemistry. Leuna has a leading position in this field. With the biorefinery, the specialty polymer plant and the world's largest PEM electrolysis, the plants currently under construction by UPM, TOPAS and Linde show the path that the chemical site will consistently pursue in the coming years.

Fraunhofer Hydrogen Lab Leuna

The Fraunhofer Hydrogen Lab Leuna is the first fully integrated electrolysis plant in a chemical power grid in Germany enabling direct feed of green hydrogen into the pipeline system of the cooperation partner Linde. As an open technology and scaling platform for the production of basic chemicals from green hydrogen, thus a unique selling point with national and international relevance and visibility is created.
