BioTraIn4Eco – Ausbau der biotechnologischen Transfer-Infrastruktur zur Stärkung der Wirtschaft in Sachsen-Anhalt

The scaling of new processes represents an important step in the transfer of scientific achievements into commercial use. Fraunhofer CBP has been active in this field for more than 10 years and, during this time, has supported and accompanied numerous companies, as well as academic research groups, in scaling new technologies, particularly in the field of biotechnology.

The biotechnological equipment at the CBP mainly comprises medium to large pilot-scale facilities. By expanding capacities in the benchtop and smaller pilot scale, the range of support services can be significantly expanded. When it comes to scaling, it is not only the investigation of the scalability of new processes that is of interest, it is also particularly important to adapt and further develop new processes to achieve scalability. The existence of a strong scaling platform can be a crucial factor when deciding where to translate a new technology into a commercial production facility.

The Leuna site is ideally suited for establishing a biotechnology industry due to its chemical park, but the support available for scaling up is still too limited. We would like to correct this with this project and develop the CBP into the center for the establishment of a broad and promising biotechnology industry in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
