We collect waste and residual materials from the agricultural and food industries in central Germany and investigate their potential as new raw materials for the chemical industry.
We collect waste and residual materials from the agricultural and food industries in central Germany and investigate their potential as new raw materials for the chemical industry.
The long-term integration of the agricultural, food and chemical industries in central Germany is crucial on the path to a bio-based, circular and climate-neutral economy. Established, small-scale business structures often lack the resources to develop and implement greater added value processes. Parallel to the agricultural and food industry, the chemical industry, which is strong in central Germany, is under enormous pressure to transform: political and social conditions require greater independence from fossil raw materials and thus the development of a new bio-based raw material base for the industry.
The main idea of the project is to create a scientific data basis for the use of regional waste and by-products in the chemical industry in central Germany. New usage concepts with greater added value for materials that are not primarily suitable for food production are described. To this end, waste materials and by-products are recorded quantitatively and qualitatively along the often fragmented value chains of the agricultural and food industries. First, primary data on the quantities and qualities of regional waste materials and by-products from the agricultural and food industries are collected. The current uses, material properties and utilization potential in the chemical industry are summarized in profile sheets.
SysWeB connects between stakeholders from the agricultural and food industry and the chemical industry. On this basis, further projects can be initiated for the concrete implementation of the outlined regional value chains.
