Anti-fogging

Functional anti-fogging coatings applied by low-pressure plasma processes can be used to prevent a disturbing visual impression caused by condensation of small water droplets. The deposition can be done on flat substrates as well as 3D bodies.

To achieve the desired surface property, the substrates for coating are treated in a plasma reactor at a pressure of typically 1 mbar or less. As process gases we use, for example, Ar, H2 or O2 and as precursors substances such as hexamethyldisiloxane (C6H18Si2O; HMDSO).

By chemically activating the surface, functional groups or long-chain plasma polymers can be covalently bonded to the surface. With the addition of post-crosslinking, we ensure the long-term stability of the coatings.
